Motivational Monday

Write freely and as rapidly as possible and throw the whole thing on paper. Never correct or rewrite until the whole thing is down. Rewriting in process is usually found to be an excuse for not going on

  1. I’m going to have to use that one for my Tuesday Instagram writing quotes . . . Steinbeck nailed it. I can’t tell you how many people paralyze their progress because they keep revising as they go, starting at the beginning every time they sit down to write.

    • It’s a great quote, Lynda (I like your insta quotes). I used to do this, and you get no where fast!

  2. That’s interesting. I read this advice often but rarely with the reason. I can see that happening for many. Or some.

    • Yeah, I used to because of advice I was given by a published author. She said that way when I finished I would have a polished manuscript. Only trouble was it seemed to be a never ending draft! And I love editing so it’s much better to write a dirty draft and fix it up after the words are down 🙂

  3. Good advice. Alas, harder to do in practice. At least for me.

    • It can be really hard. But I have to resist the urge because it’s a dep, dark whole once you head down 😉
