Query Tuner

You probably didn’t notice, but on the menu of my website a new tab appeared a week or so ago: Query Tuner.

Query Tuner is my side hustle (an additional job a person takes in addition to their primary job in order to supplement their income). I had been operating on a word of mouth only system, but I have decided to take it a step further and make it more formal. Hence, Query Tuner was born.

For any aspiring author wanting an agent you have to submit a query (often required for a publishing company as well). I have a knack for writing query letters and have been teaching synopsis/query/pitch writing for the last three years. I’m also presenting a “Writing a query letter” workshop at an upcoming writers (virtual) conference in August.

As I said, I have also been critiquing query letters (as well as synopses and pitches) privately. Moving forwards I am advertising my query letter writing services as my main business, although will still do synopses and pitches on request.

So if you know someone who is new to querying, or struggling with their query letter, I’d love it if you could point them in my direction.

Do you have a side hustle? What do you think of mine?

Ooo such a good idea! I’ve tried a few side hustles but none of them really bring in any income, yet. I tried to do online editing and writing but didn’t make any money. I do tutoring for the girl upstairs right now which is a nice $100 a week for the summer! And I have a photography website and now a store on “teachers pay teachers” which is a website where if you create a resource for your classroom, you can share it with other teachers (for free, or for money). Since I love hippos, and the only hippo themed decoration package was ugly, I created my own and put it up there. So if anyone else wants it, they can buy it! A few items are for free too.

    • Great idea, GF! Your hippos are so cute πŸ™‚ But how did I not know you have a photography website????

  5. Query letters are hard. Good luck with your side hustle.

HAHA well I can’t take credit for how cute the hippos are since I didn’t create it haha but once I get my stuff printed (it’s been emailed in already to the shop) I will make a post on my blog πŸ™‚

And I haven’t mentioned the photography website anywhere. It’s new. I had a profile on viewbug for a while but this other website is a selling one, so I want to see if my pictures have any luck here:) Kinda want to sell one first before sharing it on my blog…

    • Well, I can’t wait to hear about your photography (I didn’t even know it was a hobby, though). Maybe you could post about the hobby and get to the side hustle later…
