I’m not sure if others around the world call the lead up to Christmas the “silly season” like we do in Oz, but the moniker certainly applies. Life just gets uber crazy and I’m starting to feel the effects (it is only 38 days until Christmas after all).
I guess in Australia, not only is it almost Christmas, but December is also the end of the school year and the start of the summer holidays. With so many end-of-year events, holidays to plan, Christmas to organise and the temptation of warm, sunny days, life really does get silly.
Even though we are going to be having a covid-safe summer holiday and Christmas (=quiet), it doesn’t seem to have lessened the crazy that is now going on. My diary is so full of things I’m starting to dread looking at the week ahead.
It’s about now I look forward to Christmas day (I’ll talk about how we celebrate Christmas in a future post).

Christmas, humor and music go together like peanut butter, jelly, and marshmallow cream. We don’t call it the silly season, but it certainly is.
The one time I was in Australia, it was close to Christmas and, for a kid who grew up where there was ice, snow and harsh winds around December 25th, it was a real culture shock…

Marshmallow cream? Not sure what that is but it sounds yummy!
I’d feel the same if I experienced a white Christmas. I can’t imagine what that would be like.

Peanut butter and marshmallow cream is called a Fluffernutter, because the brand name of the marshmallow is Fluff. Never tried a Fluffernutter with jelly, might be a little too sweet… nah, no such thing…

Love Fluffernutter! I’ll have to see if any of the stores here stock it. Being in the capital with all the international embassies, we do have access to some favourites for those from overseas.

Silly is a much better word than crazy, which is how I often hear the Christmas season described. I don’t usually start counting down until after Thanksgiving, but some of my neighbors have their Christmas lights on already 🙂

We have a family birthday earlyish in December, so that gives us a good guide for starting everything Christmassy – no lights, tree, carols etc until after the birthday has passed.
