A Vivid Dream

In 2020 Iโ€™m answering a list of 52 journal questions. Read about it here.

Share a vivid dream
I’m sure this is supposed to mean a “deep in sleep” dream, but I want to share a different kind of vivid dream.

My dream is to be a published author. To have this as my career. It is something I have dreamt of for a long time.

I know it will happen. This isn’t some pie in the sky dream, but one so vivid, I am doing everything I can to make it happen. The thing is, to get it right, to have a manuscript that wows an agent, then an editor, you have to spend time on it. Agonise over every word. Trust me, I am.

I haven’t talked about my writing here for quite a long time. I didn’t feel I had anything worth saying. But my current manuscript is in the tail end of edits and will soon be heading off to my beta readers.

I promise you, within a few short months, I will start to query agents.

To that end, I am going to update here a little more often. I’ll keep radio silence while I continue to edit, so my next post about my writing will be when I have done all I can and am passing the next step in my journey to realising my dream to my beta readers.

One day it will be my story in the pages…

To quote from one of my favourite movies: What’s your dream? Everybody’s got a dream.

(and bonus points if you know the movie *wink*)

    Okies the movie is Tangled!!!

My dream is also to publish a book. But Iโ€™m not fighting for it like you are ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ right now Iโ€™d love to be able to build and sculpt my own acrylic nails. Iโ€™ve tried once but I get high off the fumes so itโ€™s gotta be outside. And my practice fingers I was sssoooooo excited for are too small. Iโ€™m looking into other options now lol

    • Well, I guess Tangled might have that line, but it is Pretty Woman. ๐Ÿ™‚

Oh, bummer about the practice nails – and all the trouble you had getting them too.

  2. I look forward to hearing. One of the things I love about writer blogs is their progress.

    • Thanks, Jacqui. It’s funny, I like reading about other writers’ progress (like yours!), but I always think people will be bored with mine.

  3. Pretty Woman? Ah yes, the dreaded edits. Careful with beta readers. That’s why my novel has been hibernating for a couple years. They pointed out (well, I figured it out via their comments), that the whole thing needed to be rewritten. It’ll make it better, ultimately. I knew there was something wrong. But it was disheartening when I set it aside.

Anyway, my point is don’t worry about making it sparkle before sending to beta readers. The things you think your novel needs won’t be the things the beta readers find for you.

    • Well done, Liz, it is Pretty Woman ๐Ÿ™‚ You should dust off your novel. If it’s been sitting for a few years you might be ready to face it – and with all the time on your hands what better than to rewrite ๐Ÿ˜‰

And thank you. That’s a good point.

  4. That is a great dream, and each word brings you closer! Yes, it takes time. And sweat, tears, and hopefully not too much blood! I’m so glad you’re sharing about your writing adventure. I’m working on a second draft that I hope to have in readable shape before too long, so I understand where you’re at. Good luck!

    • I think I’m up to the blood stage *grin*. Good luck on your second draft! I’d hate to count the number of drafts I’ve been through.

Hehe the practice nails for work now to get the liquid/powder ratio down. Todayโ€™s nails were a little too wet haha

    • Oooh, no-one wants wet nails ๐Ÿ˜‰ You’ll get there. I can’t wait to see when you “nail” it (sorry, couldn’t resist)
