Conference Roundup

Romance Writers of Australia’s conference was held over the weekend in Melbourne. I presented a workshop on Biometrics, but otherwise didn’t participate in the conference this year (the first time in 11 years). The rego money is going to a good cause – my writing retreat cruise next year.

Melbourne. I presented a workshop on Biometrics, but otherwise didn’t participate in the conference this year (the first time in 11 years). The rego money is going to a good cause – my writing retreat cruise next year.

I had secretly been a little worried about how I would find the experience. After all, I usually mingle with all the attendees during the meal breaks, attend multiple workshops, dress in costume for the fancy dress cocktail party and dress up for the awards dinner.

I’m happy to say I had a wonderful time. I still caught up with my writing friends, mingled with attendees outside of conference hours and spent my conference time writing =)

I also got to meet a cyber friend I met through the 2018 A-Z Challenge (and more on that in a later post), came up with what I think is a great idea for a short story and started researching for it and spent four marvellous days immersed in all things writing related.

Next year I’ll join in the conference (Fremantle in Western Australia) but I won’t be so worried in the future if I can’t officially participate.

  1. Your seminar sounds interesting. I’m trying to figure out what it would mean!

    • Biometrics is the science of detecting and recognising human characteristics by measuring and analysing biological data using various electronic technologies (facial recognition, fingerprints etc) and I presented teaching what it is, what it means and how it might affect characters in your story (with a particular focus on disguises).

  2. Glad you had a good time.
