In 2020 I’m answering a list of 52 journal questions. Read about it here.
What would you be doing if money was no object?
Hands down, buying the house next door.
We live on a slope so the house next door (a rental) has a chimney very close to our lounge room windows due to their lower level. Their fireplace is filthy and for 7 to 8 months of the year chugs out thick, black, stinky smoke which fills our house (through our ducted heating). This year, with everyone working from home, it ran all day, every day.
In that wonderful Utopia where money is no object, I would be buying next door and pulling out the fireplace. Okay, so I’d also renovate the house, then we’d move in so we could knock down our house and build a new house that utilised passive heating and cooling with a better floor plan design for our family. Then move back into our new home and sell or rent next door.
Every year we live here, I want this to happen more and more. After a covid year, I’m desperately hoping I have some long lost relative who is going to think of me in their will (sadly none of my relatives are long lost, or wealthy, lol).
What would you be doing if money was no object?

Pay off my debt, buy a house, and a car and open a HUGE retirement fund (or any retirement fund haha)

Retirement? What’s that? Lol, can’t see that in my future, but I am sure it would be nice.

Oh man, that has to be annoying. Someone didn’t plan your street our very well, did they?

I’m not sure how the approvals were done, but someone messed up, that’s for sure.

I’d hope that I could still be me. I have friends, no, former acquaintances, who made big money and turned into something else.
I have built more than enough to be comfortable, but I love what i do and I will keep doing it. Part of the reason is because the thing I do makes others happy, and allows them to go out and do things, sometimes they find joy, and that is a thing we all need at this point in time.
I would be happy to just nestle in to the roots of the world and fart out enzymes that make the world better.

I wouldn’t change if I had buckets of money. If life has taught me one thing, is that you don’t need money to be happy, it just makes things a little easier. And that’s all I would want from money, to make things a little easier.
(Still laughing at your enzynes 😉 )

That smoke situation sounds awful! I hope something changes for the better soon!
If money were no object, I would travel more (once life gets back to normal) and establish some university scholarships because higher ed is way too expensive for a lot of families!

I wish the smoke situation would change, but we just don’t know what to do about it. At least it is summer now (although temps aren’t there yet) so we have a couple of months before it starts again.
Higher ed is expensive. In Australia the Federal government offers a deferred loan to students, and then when they start working, payments are taken out of their pay before they get it. But the debts are still big. Not the way you should have to start your working life.

I have literally NOTHING saved for retirement lol I wish it was different but I just can’t put anything aside right now. Even having a surprise extra few hundreds on my pay this month it seems to have disappeared in less than a week LOL but I did have to pay teacher license fees and I may have bought more masks… I can feel you judging me! Please don’t judge me 😫😫
December 22, 2020 at 6:42 am
Masks are a rather essential part of life now!!
December 22, 2020 at 7:07 am
Hehe yes! And these are all 3-layers, all my other masks are 2. But now I’ll have 40 masks LOL literally 40. But its ok. Its for my health.
Ontario just entered another province wide lockdown. Well Dec 26th we will. Until Jan 23rd. Schools are allowed to open for in person learning on the 11th which is good for us. Cos we were to open on the 7th so no biggie. But we don’t know what will happen between now and then.

I don’t think anyone knows what will happen next week, let alone in a month. I think the only thing you can plan is to make no plans!
December 22, 2020 at 7:42 am
For sure! My plans are to go to the grocery store tomorrow and order pizza on Wednesday LOL that’s it!
