In 2020 I’m answering a list of 52 journal questions. Read about it here.
What are your priorities in life?
Obviously my family and my personal priorities (which are basically my goals), but that’s not what I want to talk about.
The thing I need to work on is making myself a priority. I’m really terrible at it. I have an innate desire to help and an inability to say no. A really bad combination.
I guess you could say my priority is to prioritise me. I am working on it.
What are your priorities?

Gosh, other than having family members who are happy, healthy, and financially solvent, I’m not really sure I focus on priorities. Being reliable? Not leaving a messy kitchen? Driving the speed limit? I think they change by the day 🙂

Yeah, after family, everything else kinda loses importance, doesn’t it.

When you have kids at home, yourself is a great priority. I know how that used to feel. Not so much for us empty nesters!

Oh, I will miss the Barbarians terribly when they leave home, but I do look a little forward to the extra time I will have 😉

Yes, you should prioritize yourself. And anyone worth being in your life should understand this.

You’re right, Liz. Sadly when you volunteer, people tend to not be so concerned with your own priorities.

I absolutely get your point about being able to say no! Same here. Maybe I need to prioritise myself too. After I’ve done things I’m asked…

Haha, Sue. That’s the problem isn’t it. You know when someone says do you want the good or bad news first, I always say the bad – you need to finish with the good. Same with tasks. I always think, ooh, I’ll do this fun thing but before I let myself do that I need to do icky tasks A to Z. Of couse, I never get to the fun thing.
