It rained on the weekend and we had puddles!
It probably seems funny to get excited by puddles, but after years of el nino drought (which is why Australia burnt so well last summer) it is delightful to have a la nina spring and to see enough rain fall to make puddles. I can’t remember the last time I have seen a puddle – which I hadn’t realised until I saw one.
We’ve had the odd rain event, but the water has either run straight off the dry earth (a lot of soil repels water, but especially when it is dry) or been sucked up by the parched ground.
This last week has been the first time in forever the ground has finally reached saturation and… puddles.
Has that happened to you; you’ve suddenly realised something you’ve missed only because it is back again?

Oooo puddles!!!! I hope you went jumping in them! You definitely deserved that happy news haha

Lol, no, I didn’t jump in them (it was really cold), although I did consider it.

You have me wondering when my last puddle was. Well, we did have a storm about a week ago, unexpected. I love your picture of the boy jumping in the water. So true.

Oh, I love storms. Flashing lightning, rumbling thunder and loads of rain. Guaranteed to make me happy 🙂

I feel that way about the sun, after a prolonged period of cloudy skies!

I’m with you on that, Deb. Although it doesn’t tend to be cloud but fog that hides our skies for days.

Are the firefighters still hugging the koalas? I remember they were doing that in their off-hours. A very sweet thing for them to do…
We go through years-long periods of drought followed by a couple of rainy years, and the same thing happens here: the water just runs off before it has a chance to do any good…

There are still some koalas being cared for. Sadly, we lost 100s of them and they are considering listing them as endangered 🙁

Congratulations! We have had puddles here in Melbourne till the last few days. Today’s forecast is 29’, no rain! I’m off to the pool. Enjoy your splashing! 🙂

We’re warming up from yesterday – only until Wednesday though. Thursday is back to cool again. *sigh* I’m really ready for the weather to warm and stay warm.

I do miss puddles! The last ones we had came from melting snow. We haven’t had rain here in a long time!

I have to say, I am glad the puddles we get aren’t from melting snow 😉

World weather patterns are so weird. El Nino here means lots and lots of rain.

Really? El nino is drought, la nina is flood.
