Rearrange

Jeckle needs more desk space (he only has a tiny desk and his chromebook takes up most of it). After much pondering, measuring and scheming, there was only one solution that would work.

On the weekend we turned my desk 90′ to create a small space (73cmx50cm) for a new Ikea desk. Now Jeckle will have somewhere to spread his papers out.

Before, my desk sat under the window (I looked straight to my bird bath) and now I am facing the room. I’m sitting with my back against cupboard doors, so I have to get up and push the chair in to get to my files. I also can no longer reach the rubbish bin, printer or my bookshelves without having to stand and walk around my desk.

It’s going to take some getting used to!

The most important thing was to make sure there was somewhere for a dog bed. There is, but I will have to step over it everytime I move to/from my desk.

Have you ever had to change something and struggled to get used to it?

Ooooo I had that same desk in black when I was in teacher’s college! I’m sure you’ll get used to it. Im sorry you lost your view though!

    • Haha, I think every student relies on Ikea these days. I miss the old set-up, although I am sure over time I will get used to this one.

  2. That is quite a rearrange! But everyone needs desk space!

Years ago, my husband and I tried putting the head of our bed (no headboard) at the window, and I…could…not…sleep. We had to move it back!

  3. My mother used to rearrange the furniture in the house twice a year. So, moving things around doesn’t bother me. It doesn’t sound like you’ve got a good solution yet. I imagine if you moved more than the desk. . . But then that depends on the rest of the room, too. Hope you find you like the new setup.

    • I don’t mind things being moved around so much, I think it’s the fact things aren’t as nice for me as they were before.

The bedroom we use as the office is teeny. Throw in one wall being built-in cupboards, one wall with a window that takes up most of the width and a third wall with the door in it, with 3 of us needing desk space, and it’s like a tetras puzzle. It’s really designed as a kids room with space for a single bed and one bedside table and that’s it.

  4. I bet the dog likes the new bed location. You can’t easily escape him anymore!

    • We don’t have a dog at the moment – but it’s in preparation for when we do (we’re on a breeder’s waiting list for a puppy).
