or not to be shot. That seems to be the question!
The shot I am referring to is the covid vaccine. After months of everyone keeping their fingers crossed a vaccine could be developed, there are a number on the horizon. 2021 should be the year of the jab.
But with the desperate wishes of a world finally being answered, it seems the conversation has changed tune. Many people who had been begging for a vaccine are now hesitant to line up to be jabbed. “It’s too fast” a common refrain (referring to how quickly this vaccine has been developed compared to other vaccines which take something like 5 years).
I imagine anything can be done faster if a) the project is given priority over everything else and b) there are virtually unlimited funds!
I have no idea what the checks and balances are like in other countries, but in Australia the TGA (Therapeutic Goods Association) are the mob who approve drugs like the covid vaccine. The various covid vaccines will have to meet the same standards for approval that every other drug has to.
Good enough for me (yes, I’ll be lining up for my shot).
Are you planning on getting the covid vaccine?

Of course, as soon as it’s available – but the first lot are giving priority to the vulnerable and the front line workers. Fair enough.

Totally agree. Those at greater risk need it first (they’ll get it March, but I still think we’ll start getting it mid-year).

Samesies. If Health Canada sez it’s OK, I will be lining up.

Yep, have to have faith that the powers that be know what they are approving. I agree.

Not until I can believe that getting it won’t kill me.

I don’t think anyone in a trial has been killed yet, so things are looking promising for you, John 🙂

Our FDA is fast tracking the vaccine, so it should get expedited approval. I will definitely get the vaccine once it’s available. I’m not taking my chances without.

My thoughts exactly, Liz.

I will definitely want it! I feel like they are fast-tracking it, but I am hoping that they aren’t skipping any steps. I can’t wait until it is ready and we can start to have less panic and stupidity around the virus. I am over this lol

It’s been a very tiring year thanks to covid. I am really looking forward to those few weeks over Christmas/New Year where everything stops and you can breathe again. It will be wonderful if moving into Christmas next year covid is becoming a thing of the past!

I’m with you on this, Anita. I think it’s faster because all the roadblocks were moved. I’m going to get it, too.

One of Australia’s leading experts (head of infectious diseases and immunology at Sydney uni) came out yesterday and debunked some of the biggest misconceptions (such as speed) for those exact reasons.

I will get it, but I’m not in a high-need group, so it will probably be a while!
November 26, 2020 at 2:45 pm
At least once others start to get it, herd immunity starts to occur, so you will be more protected by default. And our turns will come!
November 27, 2020 at 5:27 am
My family and I have already had COVID so we won’t be lining up for the vaccine.
November 28, 2020 at 6:15 pm
Gosh, Dena. I had no idea you (and yours) had been through covid. I hope it wasn’t too rough for you all.
November 29, 2020 at 12:43 pm
Wasn’t too rough for us, thanks!
