Conference week

This Thursday I will be travelling to Darwin, Northern Territory for the Romance Writers of Australia annual conference. For a writer, going to conference means immersing yourself in the writing world for a few days – something we don’t get to do often as writing is a rather solitary endeavour.

It is wonderful to be in a room full of like-minded peers, because for a writer, there are always so many voices in our heads, it’s great to be with others who understand. There are workshops to help us hone our writing craft, literary agents and publishers to keep us up to date on the latest in the industry (and the chance to meet one on one to pitch your manuscript to them) and best of all that surge of creative inspiration to revitalise our writing. Plus the chance to catch up with friends who are scattered across the country and we only get to see in person at conference.

As an aside, this is also the first time I will have been to Darwin (the Northern Territory for that matter) so that makes it a little more exciting as well. After conference, I will have been to all the states and territories of Australia.

I know conference is still work so the days can be draining trying to take everything in, and the high level of social interaction can also take a toll. Even so, I can’t wait.
