Gone today, here tomorrow

A surfboard lost in Tasmania in 2017 has been found in northern Queensland (it was actually found in 2018, but it has only now its made its way back to its original owner).

Where it was lost (most southerly point on the east) and found (nearly at the top of the east coast of Oz)

The owner lost it when taking on a 16 metre (52 foot) wave off the south of Tasmania. Apparently he joked it must have crashed on the rocks in New Zealand. Not quite, lol.

Through a remarkable series of coincidences, this year the owner talked to someone else in teh surfing community who talked to someone else… and they knew a family who had pulled a bright green surfboard out of the waters in far north Queensland, covered in barnacles, and hung it on their wall.

Surfboard and owner are now being reunited.

Have you ever had something you’ve been reunited with you thought lost forever?

    Not me but my mom:

So when I was in grade 8 (November 2000) my family moved. One vhs that my mom and I loved was missing but she was like “its all good, we will find it after we unpack” so we move and set up house in a different house.

It was all unpacked and we still just had the paper cover for this vhs! Things were searched, boxes cleaned out and unpacked. Couldn’t find it! So she eventually threw out the cover thinking it was forever lost and got a dvd version (cos its now Christmas 2009!)

In February of 2010 my parents moved again to where they are now. They unpacked and about 6 months later THIS VHS HAS REAPPEARED!!!! Its insane lol cos they didnt even have a vhs player anymore that worked well! 😂 so strange!

    • First of all, now I feel old (grade 8 in 2000), and secondly, it’s weird how that happens! I wonder if it had slipped into one of those boxes that never seems to get unpacked (or is that just us – we always seem to end up with one or two boxes that never fully get unpacked, lol).

  2. So you’re saying, there is hope even when all seems lost?

    Haha awwwww don’t feel old! You’re 25 and not a day older! I am 187 now THAT’S old 😂

  4. That’s a great story. Occasionally you hear these stories about things lost that end up found years later. They give me chills.

    • It is rather eery how this happens, isn’t it? I mean, what are the chances of the board being found and then for the original owner being tracked down (when they weren’t looking for them).

  5. I love it when things reappear! Unfortunately, usually when I lose something, it stays lost.

    • Oh, same for me, Jenny. I think the sock monster from the laundry is responsible for a lot more than socks…
