Newspapers

I decided to do something different for today’s post. I used a random word generator to determine today’s blog post topic and as you will have seen by the title, the word I got was newspapers.

Newspapers is actually a good topic, because this is something I talk about a bit with other people because in this day and age I am always curious to find out who still reads a newspaper.

I will confess, I am one of those who still read the paper. It’s the first thing I do every morning. I pick up my tablet and read the local paper before getting out of bed and starting my day. I used to get the paper delivered and if it wasn’t for the fact it’s about double the cost of the digital version, I still would. I would put the paper on the kitchen bench and over the course of the day – eating brekky, making lunches, cooking dinner, I’d gradually make my way to the end.

Now it’s a matter of tapping a screen to turn the page, but the photos are in colour and I can read it without getting out of bed and going outside (which on a freezing, frosty winter’s morning is a bonus).

The local paper keeps me up to date on what’s going on in my community, as well as national and international news. I don’t use social media for news (hard to trust and it relies on algorithms I have no control over) and I feel news I pay for is to be trusted more than news that is free.

But that’s just me. Where do you get your news from?

  1. I don’t. I can’t deal with the news right now. That’s what happens when an authoritarian regime commandeers your government. (Not that you’d know. I hope you never have to deal with this.)

    • I have to admit, at the moment I do often just read the title of an article and then skip it. There’s only so much negative news I can read right now – there seems to be so much of it!!
