Readers, a question…

Dear readers of my blog, I am in the process of setting up a monthly author newsletter. Now, I do realise I am not yet published, but I see this as getting ready for when I do (and also so I am in the habit of writing it).

What I am wondering is what would you want to hear from me in a newsletter? Or what do you like in other author’s newsletters? I’d love it if you could tell me in the comments.

Here are some suggestions to get you thinking:

  • Writing updates
  • Writing craft
  • Recipes
  • Aussie slang definitions
  • Aussie facts
  • Aussie wildlife
  • (something else Aussie)
  • General wildlife
  • Interesting environmental facts/stories
  • Craft
  • Background research for my stories
  • Real life mysteries (remembering I write cozies)
  • My life tales

What do you think, anything there interesting enough you’d want to read about it in my newsletter? Any other ideas?

I have never heard of an author’s newsletter! LOL Can’t wait to see what you put out!

    • Really?! Tonnes of published authors have them. I subscribe to quite a few myself. It’s great for authors you love because you hear about new releases. For US readers you often get to enter contests (usually exclude US/Canada though). Plus they often talk about themselves and offer other stuff.

Oh I see! I don’t have authors that I really gravitate to enough to search out these things I guess lol Like I can’t really say I have a favourite author, when people ask I say Jane Austen. LOL I doubt she will be putting out one of these newsletters haha

        • No, I doubt it! I definitely have authors with book series I love so I follow their newsletters.

  2. My vote is for you to make it USEFUL for readers/writers, and specific to YOU –

    Aussie slang definitions
    Aussie facts
    Aussie wildlife
    (something else Aussie)
    Background research for my stories
    My life tales

  3. Honestly, I don’t read newsletters. I only subscribe to one, and that’s only so I know about a favorite author’s newest releases. Sorry I can’t be of more help.

    • I’m the same with my subscriptions, Liz. But I am trying to “be prepared”. I also assume when I do get an agent and then have real deadlines etc I won’t have the time for everything so I can put some time in now to learn all about it and work out any kinks.

Hopefully one day I will have readers subscribing to learn about my new releases *fingers crossed*
