Shortest day of the year!

Winter Solstice!! It means we are finally at the shortest day of the year – from tomorrow, our days will start getting longer. Yay!

Today sunrise and sunset in Canberra will be:

7:12 AM
Wednesday, June 21, 2017 (AEST)
4:58 PM
Wednesday, June 21, 2017 (AEST)
Even though we’ve only hit winter solstice today, Australia started winter back on the 1st June (and finishes on 31st August). I look forward to the longer days, and will eagerly wait for spring to roll back around.
Are you cold blooded or warm blooded? Me, I’m cold blooded and need the sun to get me going.

  1. I still can’t get my head around the fact you have winter June – August. That’s what comes of living in the Northern Hemisphere all my life… 🙂

    • I have trouble getting my head around the fact our dates differ for change of season. I always assumed 1st June meant everyone started winter in the southern hemisphere and summer in the north. When I think about it none of the dates being used really make sense. I mean, the shortest day of the year should be the middle day of winter really. And the longest the middle day of summer. That makes sense to me.
