Yesterday was Father’s Day in Australia and The Hub had a wonderful day. He deserted us all and went snow walking in the Snowy Mountains (Dead Horse Gap to be exact) with two mates.
The weather was perfect – they climbed to a height of 2000m (6561 feet). The overall distance they walked was over 7km (4.3 miles). I think they climbed about 500m in elevation from their starting point.
I’m a little jealous… doesn’t the photo below look stunning?
And to show how wonderful the weather was, the snow capped mountains you can see in the distance are the Victorian Alps (about 100 km / 62 miles away).
We’ve never been big on Father’s / Mother’s Day (we don’t like the whole materialistic part of the day), so none of us were worried The Hub spent the day without us.
How did you / do you spend Father’s Day?

My Dad is gone, so not doing much on the day, but I have wished all the best to the Dads in my family – my brother and two nephews.
I’m EXTREMELY jealous, here in locked-down Melbourne, unable to go more than five km from home!

The Hub is lucky. Many in the ACT can’t leave the borders of the ACT (and haven’t been able to all year). If they do, they can’t work for 2 weeks and have to self-quarantine. Health workers for example. And apart from travelling an hour or two from our border we can’t go anywhere either as we’ve been locked out of all states and territories (although we are 8+ weeks covid free).
But it is still a better situation than you’re in.

Now that my brother and I are grown and out on our own, I usually mail a card and send some text messages. I am really pulling away from the materialistic as well, and for at least the last ten years or so, my parents get either a birthday present OR a mother/father’s day present. For my mom, it’s easier because Mother’s day is the second Sunday in May and her birthday is the 21st LOL. There is a long weekend closest to the 24th so we usually go to their house and celebrate both together. My dad’s birthday is April 1st, which is usually around Easter, and then Father’s day is the 3rd Sunday in June so a bit farther apart haha.

Better to show love than to get a pair of undies and socks, lol. Or some other thing they don’t need.

Yes exactly! My brother and I are going to try to have a giftless Christmas! I suggested we have Thanksgiving at my brothers and my mom had a mini hissy fit… so we will see how that goes! It also depends on COVID – I have already told them my involvement in Thanksgiving is dependant on testing negative. And after Thanksgiving we usually exchange gift lists so I will bring it up then. Le Brother doesnt want to because he says he always gets labeled the ungrateful one… so I’ll do it. I suggested it after my first contract in Korea and it was no received well.

Our Father’s Day was in June. I sent my father a gift. He seemed to appreciate it.

Looks like a fun day! When my boys were younger, we made a cement stepping stone for my husband each father’s day. Some of them didn’t turn out quite as we intended 🙂 but it was a fun tradition!
