In 2020 I’m answering a list of 52 journal questions. Read about it here.
Five things to do less often
This is a tough one, as I have a ready list of things to do more often rather than less! I’ve had to think about it and this is what I have come up with:
- Procrastination
This is one that I have battled with my whole life. I am way better than I used to be, but there is always room for improvement 🙂 - Working
I don’t mean the paid work, just the normal chores that seem to never end. I always prioritise the work, so don’t let myself do the fun stuff until the work is done. Trouble is, the work never seems to end! I really should try and do less of the chores and more of the fun. - Saying yes
I always feel obligated to say yes to things my tummy is screaming ‘no’ to. As a result, I am often doing things I’d rather not do, or don’t have the time for, because I said yes. Again, I’m getting better at this (and at saying no) but there is definitely room for improvement. - Hoarding
I am not a big hoarder, but we do seem to have accumulated a lot of “stuff”. Much is because we’ve had growing Barbarians, so things they’ve grown too old for, or grown out of, are still cluttering the house. I really want to get rid of the “stuff” (but not in a Marie Kondo way). - Saving things for a special day
For example, I have an inherited dinner set which we only use once or twice a year. Why? Why not use it more often? There are quite a few things we have that we save for that special moment.
What about you, is there something you want to do less often?

My parents had a “good” dish set as well! We would use it for holidays or when company was over. Or if mom and I were having a picnic in the living room watching movies and eating pizza (we’d get to use the tea cups from her massive collection for soda!)
I’ve inherited my paternal grandmothers China. It’s in two huge barrels in my bedroom at my parents house. Idk what to do with it lol maybe if/when I get married I’ll bust it out and use it on the regular lol

I have been thinking about this more and more since I posted and I think while we are locked down and all the after school stuff isn’t happening (which means we can eat as a family every single night) I should get it out and use every night. Just for fun 🙂

Glad I’m not the only one with this list, Deb.

Procrastination is definitely one thing I’d like to do less of, and hoarding – well, I don’t hoard any more, but have less time now to get rid of stuff. I made a good start, but family commitments are now taking half of my week.

I wish I had more time too, Sue. Then I could wrangle my “to do” list into order and my above list would be remarkably improved!

That’s a good list.

Haha, it would be better if I could overcome all these things. Still, something to work on 🙂

Worry is number one on my list. And probably numbers two and three, as well. I am also trying to break the habit of saving special things for the perfect time…which rarely comes!

I almost put worry on my list, because I am very skilled at worrying/stressing. But at the moment I’m actually working on this one which is why I didn’t include it. Fingers crossed I manage better.

Yes you should!!! The barbarians are old enough that they won’t break anything lol

Exactly! Not that they’ll probably notice any difference, lol.
