Aussie lamb ad 2021

Every year the Australian lamb industry drops an ad for Aussies to eat lamb on Australia Day (which is next week). I posted about it last year (and included my favourite from 2016).

For your viewing pleasure, here is the 2021 ad, Make lamb, not walls…

(A few Aussie explanations first: Aussie state borders have been shut a lot in the last year thanks to covid / our PM, ScoMo, was criticised for being on holiday in Hawaii during part of our bushfires last year / Tasmania is the island state off the south-east coast. If anything else doesn’t make sense, ask in the comments)

And, just cause it features, men’s swim briefs are called budgie smugglers in Queensland (after our native budgerigar).

  1. Haha cute!! I’ve had lamb once and I did not like it. But it was Ontario lamb and apparently there is a HUGE taste difference!

    • Wow, only once ever?! We eat lamb all the time – beef, lamb, pork and chicken are the four meats we eat regularly. We’re a bit unusual in Oz because we also eat turkey mince quite a bit. I *love* lamb. It’s my favourite of all the meats.

  2. Very funny! And I definitely pick up on some well-deserved scorn for Trump and his wall.

  3. So, are you having lamb for Australia Day?

    • Actually, we probably aren’t, lol. But we eat lamb all the time – in fact, I just bought a whole lamb (butchered) from a farmer. We get our beef from them as well (1/4 of a cow at a time).

  4. Its not so common here I don’t think? I wouldn’t even know how to prepare it! I’ll have to look for it when I go shopping this weekend haha not even sure if its readily available in the shops? πŸ€”

    • Wow, I guess you forget that lamb might not be everywhere because it is everywhere here! You cook it much the same way as beef really. Mint goes beautifully with it. One of my favourite dinners is a roast lamb with gravy and mint jelly (excuse the drool).

  5. Oooo that sounds exactly how my mom made it! In theory it sounds good lol I might have to take the plunge and try it once haha

    • One of the differences in taste might be all our animals (cows, sheep etc) are grass fed – as in, living in paddocks eating the grass. I believe a lot of the livestock in the Us/Canada are grain fed. Makes a huge difference. When you come and visit I’ll cook you a lamb roast to die for πŸ˜‰

  6. They come up with something entertaining every year, and there is always someone to complain, eh?

I did like that bit at the end!
