Cruising the South Pacific

Recently (although it already feels forever ago) we did a family holiday on a cruise ship to the New Caledonia (Noumea, Lifou, Isle of Pines) and Vanuatu (Mystery Island). I won’t bore you with all the details, but I will say, for a Mum, this was the first holiday I’ve had in over 15 years. No cooking, cleaning, washing, folding, kid wrangling, “I’m bored” managing… the list goes on. Even if the islands hadn’t been magical I would have loved this holiday.

This is inside of the ship, the “promenade”. You’ll have to crane your neck sideways because WordPress have updated to a new system that has way less functionality than the old one and I can’t get the photo to load correctly. Sorry.

  1. Oh wow! Looks idyllic.

  2. It must have been wonderful! I’ve always wanted to go on a cruise. I have nobody to go with, and cabins are for pairs or families, so it will work out pretty expensive. However, I may just ask a travel agent what my options are. Even a seven day tour would be amazing.

    • Sue, there are some really good deals out there for cruises, and you can pay a singles supplement, which is more than a half share of a twin room, but less than paying for a twin room for yourself (my uncle cruises all the time on his own and this is what he does). Just select the cruise line you go with carefully. Some are more known for younger, partying crowd and try and go during school term so you miss the families with kids (although as we were a family with kids it was good for us).

      I totally recommend it!

  3. Oh wow! Looks amazing! And like you had a great time! Thanks for the awesome pictures!!

And I hate the new WordPress editor! It doesn’t even allow you to upload photos from google photos! Pffftt!! But if you go to the top right-hand side of your “write post” page, there are three little dots all in a row. If you click that, then scroll down, you have the option to “switch to classic editor” it will take you back to the old way. 🙂

    • Thanks for the tip, GF. I might do exactly that form now on. Don’t mind them changing the sytem – but only when it makes it better!

  4. That is gorgeous! I shy away from cruise ships but this looks like I should change my mind. I’ll be north of you, in Japan, in May. I’ll wave!

    • Jacqui, this was our first cruise and it wasn’t something we’d really considered before (especially The Hub, he wasn’t very keen at all). But even The Hub would happily cruise again and I am definitely on the pro-cruise holiday side of things now.

Lucky you going to Japan. Yep, you’ll be straight up from me =)

  5. No kid wrangling or “I’m bored”? Must have been heaven.
