Dead in 90 seconds

Australian scientists have developed a disinfectant that kills covid in 90 seconds. When I heard the news, I wasn’t sure what the big deal was, until I read the article and discovered that when you disinfect your hands with sanitiser, and use anti-bacterial wipes and sprays to clean high touch surfaces, it takes as long as 10 minutes to kill coronavirus – with some unable to do it at all!

EPA Names Products That Kill Coronavirus
From: Cleanlink

Wow. I had no idea and assumed it was universally instantaneous. Apparently not.

Turns out, the announcement was a big deal after all. Great news for Aussies, as millions of Australians in aged care, universities, schools, pubs and restaurants will have access from today.

This isn’t the first virus-busting disinfectant to hit the market. There are other surface disinfectants: Actichem Kwiksan, a hospital-grade disinfectant proved to kill covid in 60 sec, Bracton Medi1 surface disinfectant, Diggers Viro Surface cleaner and Clinell Universal wipes which have all proved to be effective in just 30 sec.

The advantage of this one is that it has three elements of: speed, nontoxicity, adaptability. This means it can be used on surfaces and skin. As a hand sanitiser it is “safe, quick, low-irritant and non-drying which is particularly important for those sanitising their hands many times a day”.

And as a hand sanitiser.

After the initial rollout it will become available nationwide to everyone in Australia, but production and exportation to United States, Asia and Europe should be happening by mid-year.

Hand sanitiser or soap and water? And if you soap and water do you sing Happy Birthday?

But what about roll out to Canada? 😫

I use sanitizer all day long. When I wash my hands I have to admit I don’t do it as long as I should 😂 probably because when I leave my class to go to the bathroom I sanitize, then wash after using the facilities, and then sanitize when I return to the classroom. Its a lot LOL but still overly paranoid as I have 4 students at home right now awaiting tests before they can come back to class…(or not get a test and stay home for 10 class days)

    • I’m glad I don’t have to sanitise all the time because my hands would be red raw. I’d be totally paranoid as well, especially with littlies cause they aren’t the best at remembering hygiene!!

  2. In the U.S. we keep seeing commercials for new and improved Lysol. The only problem is that you can’t find it anywhere, except the interweb, where prices are ridiculous to say the least.

    • According to google there are 2 Lysol agents approved for killing covid. Maybe the other one is available? Easier to just not leave home!

Thankfully my littles are SOOOO good! They are right back into the swing of things with their sanitizing routines and stuff.

We now can’t have snacks outside so we have to build in snack time to class time. So I do my lesson and then its workbook time so I say “5 minutes of SILENT work” so they don’t just say they don’t understand before they even open the book, and they get their snacks at the same time. It’s perfect! They all sit there having some nom noms and solving math problems. Gosh I love them so much my heart is going to EXPLODE some days.

Totally random, today we were studying for our traditions unit test. We played jepordy. They LOVE IT! So we have to end cos students are going home and it’s getting to be too long on one activity so we pack up and then they all get blank paper or scrap paper and start doing it themselves!!! One girl even asked the principal to play. He won 200 points! HAHA

    • Oh, that’s brilliant they got the Principal involved. And I love how much you love your kids.

  4. Hand sanitizer if I’m out of the house, soap and water if in. And I got my first vaccine shot yesterday, so maybe this won’t be a thing for too much longer. Fingers crossed…

    • Oh, that’s wonderful Liz. I’m in the general phase for us so not until July-ish for my first shot (we had the luxury of time with ours so a very structured plan is in place which started last week). Fingers crossed indeed!
