Ludo has arrived

At the end of last week The Hub and I made the epic trip to collect the new addition to our family (about 5 hours drive each way so it was a long day). Ludo is a delicious caramel bundle of pure joy.

He’s 9.5 weeks old, weighs 1.7kg (3.7lb) and has won all of us over. When we pick him up he snuggles in and is very calm (he often snuggles in against our legs when we are sitting), but he loves to play… he’s a puppy after all. In one day I’ve taught him to sit, which bodes well for his obedience training which will start at the end of the month.

Of course, he’s little, so he cried most of the first night. He’s sleeping in the laundry, so there was lots of me standing outside yelling “no” at regular intervals while feeling like a big meany. Night 2 he didn’t cry at all until he woke at 3am. Fingers crossed night 3 is better again.

He was an angel on the drive home (that’s him on my lap and between my feet in the car in the photos above) and has already settled in as my writing companion (on the cream coloured bed above).

Puppies are hard work… I think that’s why they are so adorable, so you don’t mind the extra.

Are you a dog person?

  1. Welcome Ludo! Yes, I am a dog person. Puppies are hard work, correct! I figure the work you put into them as puppies pays off with years of enjoyment of a well-socialized, well-trained family member.

    • That’s our hope and plan, Deb. He’s only a puppy for a short period (much less than the human versions) so hopefully that well-socialised, well-trained family member will be here sooner than later 😉

  2. I am absolutely a dog person, and your new puppy is adorable! Thanks for sharing him with us.

  3. Very cute! Looks like a Golden Doodle (half Golden Retriever, half poodle). Is he?

I like dogs, and I like cats more.

    • He’s actually a Tamaruke (bred in Australia about 30 years ago from a mixture of 9 different breeds). I love cats as well, sadly they don’t love me as my allergy has worsened over the years.

  4. I am a dog person as well. He is such a cutie! Congratulations on your new addition!

    • Thanks, Jenny. We’ve had a steady stream of Barbarian’s friends coming through, all dog fans as well.

OH MY GOODNESS I LOVE HIM SO MUCH AND I WANT TO SNUGGLE HIM AND FORGET THE WORLD EXISTS

    • Oh, GF, you do forget the world exists when he is in your arms. He snuggles in and makes these little snuffling sounds and is too adorable for words.

  6. Well he is just a furry ball of fluff and love. You are so lucky.

    • We all feel very lucky because he’s settled in so well all things considered for a puppy. Already he seems to have forgotten his litter mates and looks to us which is lovely. He’s certainly coming out of his shell.

  7. He’s cute. May the training go well.

    • As long as I can find the time to keep up the training at home I think he’ll be good. Although the Barbarians and the Hub aren’t helping, lol.

  8. I hope he will being you as much joy as our Jack Russell terrier Jenna brought us!

We put her in the laundry for a while too. She hated it! Hearing us next door and not being with us upset her. Eventually we put her bed in the kitchen, our main living space in the house, next door to the laundry. She was an obedient dog, but hated being away from us.

But everyone does it their own way and I’m sure yours will work for you and little Ludo. 😉

    • We hate it too, but because our stairs are too big for the little guy he can’t get to the grass for toileting until he grows more, and as our bedroom is carpet… Anyway, as soon as he’s grown some he’ll be on a bed in our bedroom. Until then, the laundry is the safest place for him at night.

Pick me up in 16 days!

  10. How adorable! I hope that you and Ludo will be very happy together, providing love and comfort to one another.

    • Thank you! It’s why we have dogs, isn’t it, because they are so easy to love and they love right back.

  11. What a darling, the intelligence in those eyes.

I had been a dog person for a long time. Then we inherited some dogs from different places, when they passed it did the double hurt.

Some cats took advantage of a our weakness, but seeing Ludo makes me think doggie thoughts again.

I have always thought mixed breeds to be the smartest, like the Cisco Kid, who will never fade in my memories, the old Frisbee thief.

    • They wiggle their way into your heart very quickly, so when they pass the pain is agonising. But I think the 14ish years of doggie love is worth it.
