Detour

It’s funny how often in life you start heading down one road and all of a sudden there’s a detour and you find the path you are on is nothing like you expected. That’s 2024 for me.

We’ve bought a new house and our current house is on the market. I’ll post more about this in a few weeks, but for now I’ll just say there’s a reason they say moving house is up there with having a baby or divorce as one of the big stressors in life. I have been in a permanent state of freak out for 2 weeks, lol.

Luckily, with moving house, there will be an end date. At the moment that’s mid-May. It seems so long away, but I am sure it will be here before we know it. Until then I am going to try and be kind to myself and do what I can do in the little free time I have.

I might even try and be a little excited about the new chapter that’s about to start.

How is 2024 rolling for you?

  1. Congratulations on the new house! Yes, it’s terribly stressful, and we vowed not to do it again.

  2. Yikes. Moving sucks. Sending you good thoughts so all goes smoothly. (I hope the packing is going well.)

    • Thanks, Liz. The house we are going to is smaller, so we have to try and be cut-throat about what we pack and what we donate/toss. It’s not easy or fun.

  3. I’m still dodging flying detour signs. It seems like I have done it for a century. That is part of the reason I don’t want to move.

I have two rooms of tools, and one thing I learned long ago about tools is that I bought them for a reason. If I forget what that reason was, I have to detour into a store and replace it, because I did not remember in a vacuum; whatever obscure thing that could happen or break did; only;because I no longer have the tool to fix it.

Kathy, the other half, has two rooms of art supplies. The same thing happen if she thins out her 3,000 brushes or 167 types of paper

If we moved into a smaller house we would have to build a couple of workshops for the necessities of dodging detour signs.

  4. It is so much work, but it’s also so nice to have a fresh start! My husband and I are not moving, but so far in 2024 we’ve been cleaning out a lot of stuff. I ask myself, would I want to pack (an item) up and move it? And the answer is very often no.

Good luck! Deep breaths and hot baths 🙂
