Yeah, that has always been my philosophy too. When speaking to kids about being a writer, I always used to show them an exercise book and a pen and say, “Want to be a writer? All you need is this and this!” and tell them how I used to use my sister’s old school exercise books, in which she had left space.
These days, of course, there are devices! 😂

I still have the first story I wrote (that I was proud of) which I have showed to my Barbarians. For the record, I was in grade 7 (and the story won an award at the local show).

OK, I’m struggling with this. I do agree–the barriers to entry into the profession of writing are low. Is that what he means?

Jacqui, I interpret it to mean that anyone has the tools to be a writer, you just have to want to write.

Unless you have writer’s cramp like me, then something to type on is crucial.

I’m with you, Liz. I can handwrite quickly, but then you have to type it out so it’s much faster to type from the get go – although I do edit on paper.
