Aussies are known for being larrikins and the latest offering from Aussie company RM Williams and Hugh Jackman demonstrates that.
RM Williams is an Australian company started by its namesake. RM was a saddler (like my grandfather) and began to make boots – unique for the time because they consisted of a single piece of leather that was stitched at the rear of the boot. It now makes a whole range of clothing born from the Australian outback
In the last few days, RM Williams released the following statement:
It has come to the attention of R.M.Williams that a video of a private meeting between one of R.M.Williams’ senior executives and Hugh Jackman has made its way onto the Internet. R.M.Williams strongly supports our Global Boot Ambassador Hugh Jackman and we are very proud of our association with this truly undeniable character. Our beautiful and purposefully designed footwear is built using 80 hand-crafted processes to deliver superior comfort. Indeed, perhaps too much comfort. To be clear, R.M.Williams encourages all people, including Hugh Jackman, to wear clothes. Clothes have many amazing benefits from making the wearer look stylish to making meetings way less awkward.

I love this.

I never even heard the term “larrikins” before…

Another Aussie-ism…basically it means someone who is mischievous. Not how the word originated, I think it meant more of a hooligan or rough youth a hundred years ago, but now it is usually said with wry humour. “He’s a bit of a larrikin” meaning he gets up to mischief, but not in a nasty way.

No, can’t say I’ve heard of them before. Of course, I’m not into boots, so they wouldn’t be on my radar, anyway.

They are very popular here. Not just for the boots, but for their whole range of clothing now.

Hahaha! They look like lovely boots, and that’s some bold advertising! I’ve heard of RM Williams now!

We’ve had some great advertising using Aussie humour before. Did you see my post on our Australia Day lamb ads? You should check them out: Australia Day Lamb Ads
I’ll have to see if I can find this year’s ad for my next post π

This is hilarious! An entertainment as well as an ad. The best ads are, really. You can be sure that viewers will be watching it all! No, havenβt heard of this brand, but suspect I should have.

I thought you might have heard of it, Sue! Although it’s probably more NSW and Qld where it really established itself I believe. But totally agree, ads that entertain are watched, remembered and shared.

LOL oh goodness!
Never heard of the boots but I do have a pair of rain boots in the same style!

I bet your rain boots are super stylish, GF!

Ah Hugh. Thank you for brining this to my attention A. It’s been an ordinary day up until now. Dunno about the whole legs wide open thing. I guess he’s across all markets!

Shayne, it’s Hugh. He can do anything π Glad I could brighten your day. If it’s anything like ours it’s overcast, dripping and cool.
