And I got scared half to death when it happened.
You see, I was at work on Tuesday and there was no-one else in the office but myself. I was on the phone to a client when there was this almighty crash and bang behind me. Once my heart returned to where it belonged I turned around and found this (I work inside that glass wall):
That’s about 10 metres (32 feet) of lighting that fell out of the roof. It’s very lucky no-one was walking underneath at the time, especially as it is quite a busy thoroughfare. There were electrical wires exposed on the ground as a result. I called in the damage and 20 minutes later there was hustle and bustle with the broken lights being removed and the electricals being made safe.
The next day repairs were started. I think they are replacing the lot, although it’s a bit hard to tell at the moment. I hope they secure them to the roof with stronger fixtures this time!
Has your workplace ever come crashing down?

Message of some sort? God’s will? Hmm… Glad you’re safe!

Maybe I should have taken it as a hint it was time to go home 😉 Thanks, Jacqui.

A lab I worked burned down one night, does that count? I went in the next morning and pulled the lab manager back when a beam fell.
I ran a branch office for a lab across the state. It was a rental in an office park made of press board in aluminum frames. We had a big wind one day and panels were flying everywhere.
I would almost be amazed by the lack of construction quality that passes by inspection, but I saw Miami after Andrew flattened it and have the seen the worst of inspector graft.

Gosh, glad it burnt down at night and not when you were inside, BF! Your story reminds me of my school days. A disgruntled student went in one night and burnt down some buildings – right at exam time (yep, they didn’t want to sit exams).

I think I would have jumped out of my skin, especially if I had been there alone. Yikes. Scary stuff.

It was pretty freaky. Glad it wasn’t anything inside the office and that no-one was injured.

Oh, that’s too startling! I’m glad no one was underneath!

My gosh, so am I. That would have been terrible.
