Doesn’t take much to make me happy

In 2020 Iā€™m answering a list of 52 journal questions. Read about it here.

A few small things that make you happy.
It really doesn’t take much to make me happy. Lots of small things will bring a smile to my face. I’ve tried to pick my top 3, but it’s really hard to choose!

1. A hug
I know this doesn’t seem like much, but a hug, especially from The Hub or one of my Barbarians, always makes me happy. I’ve always responded to hugs like this, so much so, that my family gave me a t-shirt that said “I run on hugs” when I was a teen.

2. A thunderstorm
I love a big, crashing thunderstorm. I grew up in the sub-tropics, so our summer wet season would be full of these. Sadly, where I live now, we rarely ever get them. There’s something about the pouring rain, flashes of lightning and the big rumble of thunder that makes me smile. In a thunderstorm you’ll always find me at a window watching the show.

3. Birds in my birdbath
I can see the birdbath from my desk. I love the birds that come and drink, but I especially love it when they have a bath. They are such fun to watch splashing around. My favourites are Albert and Mrs Albert (red wattle birds). I stop whatever I am doing to watch them have their daily bath. A total delight.

What small things make you happy?

Aww such lovely things! I miss hugs. So much! But I will be getting some this weekend, and from my family, so I am VERY excited! And I love thunderstorms as well! We are supposed to get some but they don’t last very long. The east of Toronto had massive flooding after a downpour on Wednesday but where I live we got nothing!! Hopefully we will get the storms because our humidity is so gross right now lol

    • Yay that you will get hugs this weekend. My Barbarians know I run on hugs so I get heaps at the moment as it is school holidays.

  2. Yep to the bird bath one. It’s like birds nesting into the bird house you built. Love it.

    • I was worried I wouldn’t have as many bathing at the moment because it is winter, but I now have regulars who bathe regardless of the temp (except in the mornings when the bath is frozen).

  3. Those are nice things.

I usually get lots of hugs from students so that fills my hug quotas šŸ˜‚ but alas, it will be a long time before that starts again….
