Here’s where the story ends

For those of you who have followed my posts for some time, you will know I don’t do New Year’s resolutions. Instead, I’ve started choosing a song that is often (for me) more of a motivation for the year, or expresses an emotion of the time or year to come. I’m still trying to decide which song best reflects myself in 2024 (I have a shortlist), however I didn’t post a song last year. Probably a serendipitous thing, because my year nose dived fairly quickly and didn’t really recover.

Rather than telling you the boring tale of my year in review, I thought, because I didn’t start the year with a song, I’d finish the tale of 2023 with one instead. No song can reflect what 2023 was, but the chorus of This Year by The Mountain Goats sums it up the best. I quite like the song, but if you just want the chorus, play from 1min 21sec to 1min 34sec.

I’ll post my 2024 resolution song soon 😁

  1. That’s one I have not heard before. I hear about people choosing words for the year, but not songs. It’s a great idea. I can’t wait to hear what you chose for this year.

    • Thanks, Liz. I looked back and discovered I didn’t post one for 2022 either! I could have sworn I did, but I couldn’t see it in a quick search. I had Shakira “Try Everything” for 2020 and “This is Me” from The Greatest Showman in 2021. 2024’s song coming soon 🙂

  2. I don’t choose songs, but it’s a great idea. I might choose this one for 2024, since we’re in an election year!

    • Oh gosh, yes. I completely understand why you would do that. Did you know in Australia, the election campaigning only runs for about 6 to 8 week prior to the election? I thought that was bad enough, but yours go for nearly 2 years!!

  3. Well aren’t they quirky? There’s a lot of angst to like there. I am imagining 2023, Anita-style
