Panic

This post is very late, but this is me right now…

Not a literal fire, but it seems like everything has all happened at once.

I am the president of the P&C (parent and citizens) Association of Jeckle’s school. We have a Bunnings sausage sizzle scheduled for tomorrow.

Bunnings is a hardware mega store, and charities and not-for-profits apply to run the sausage sizzle. We should make between $1,000 and $1,500 dollars tomorrow.

Aside: do you have sausage sizzles? In case this is an Aussie thing, a sausage sizzle is a sausage (snag if using Aussie) with onion and sauce in bread.

With covid there are extra precautions, so we need more people to volunteer to help. Plus all the logistics of everything that goes into this sort of fundraising event.

So this afternoon I have to collect sausages, soft drink, drop things off to various people, finalise rosters etc. My afternoon was crazy enough as it was.

Then last night, I (fortuitously) ran into one of the Deputy Principals at the school. She asked if I still go by Mrs. I said yes, and asked why (a sinking feeling while I did). “For the program,” she replied. “Would that be the program for the graduation and am I presenting?” “Why, yes.”

Great. Except no-one had actually told me I was presenting. So now, on top of all the rushing around I have to do (and the temp will be in the 30’C/90’F realm), I have to dress and attend graduation. “By the way, dress is more formal this year as due to covid changes, their formal dinner dance is directly afterwards.”

So this morning, my wardrobe was pulled apart trying to find something I could wear to a formal graduation…tonight! (Remembering I have to get up on stage and present). Argh.

This is the dress I will be wearing (not as well as the model, lol). Formal enough?

It’s just one of those days. I bet you get them too, right?

  1. Awwww sorry you have had a stressful time! That dress is beautiful! But why is it more formal due to covid?

    • Usually the graduation is held separately to their formal – the grad is held in the school hall and the formal at some lovely place in Canberra. This year, due to covid, restrictions mean it all has to be held at school so the formal is following directly after the grad. At our school, kids graduate in their senior uniforms, but this year, with the formal straight afterwards, they are going to be all dolled up in their formal wear for graduation, so I need to fit in.

  2. A few years ago, I got into a comment discussion with an Australian woman who talked about “sausage sizzles.” Is that an example of one?

Given the temperature and the short notice, I’d say that dress wuld be just abouy perfect.

    • Yep, that’s an example of a sausage sizzle. A very common event in Oz. We often do them for kids parties, or fundraisers, most fetes will have one, schools do them at events like cross-country or open days etc or we’ll even have people over for one (Come for a barbie, we’ll just do a sausage sizzle).

I hope the dress is, but thank you for saying so.

  3. Ooooohs okies! Neat ☺️

  4. Yikes. That’s a busy day. And. . . If someone told me I was presenting at something that night, I’d say, uh, no can do. One needs some warning on things like that.

    • I was very close to saying that, Liz. But I knew I could manage it, just, so… “No” and I don’t have a comfortable relationship!
